3 Elements of Our Solar Positive Design
Geothermal
We have 7 geothermal wells, 6 inches wide and 470 feet deep. We are an earthship, connected to the temperature of the ground, an even 55 degrees. In the summer we cool off of that nice 55 degrees and in the winter we warm from 55 to 68 degrees rather than from the air temperature.
Insulation
Our walls are thick. We are highly insulated and efficiently hold our temperature. We added 6 inches of insolation and have an 8 inch air pocket. In code terms, our walls have an R-Factor of 48 and our ceiling 60 and our new windows are highly insulated.
Solar
We have a power collection station on our roof. Our solar array generates 72 Kilowatts of power. Through the City of Chicago’s Climate Infrastructure grant, we are now a power contributor to the grid. We are Solar Positive.
